Pretend = to act as if something is true when it is not. (fingir)
- Chris is pretending to be sick. He doesn’t want to go to school today. (O Chris está fingindo estar doente. Ele não quer ir para a escola hoje.)
- The children like to pretend that they are super heroes. They put on costumes and chase each other around. (As crianças gostam de fingir que são super-heróis. Eles se vestem com fantasias e correm um atrás do outro.)
Intend = to plan or want to do something (pretender)
- We intend to get married next year. (A gente pretende se casar no ano que vem.)
- I intend to study medicine at college. (Pretendo estudar medicina na faculdade.)
