It’s Phrasal Verb Friday! Today’s phrasal verb is STAND OUT.

The red umbrella really stands out.
The red umbrella really stands out.

To stand out = to be noticeable; to be clearly seen (destacar-se)

Here are some examples:

1.The yellow print really stands out with a gray background. (A letra amarela se destaca muito com o fundo cinza.)

 

2.When Julie went to China, she stood out because she is very tall and has blonde hair. (Quando a Julie foi para a China, ela se destacou porque ela é alta e loura.)

3. I really hope that I stand out tonight during the football game. There will be university recruiters there. (Espero que eu me destaque durante o jogo de futebol americano hoje anoite. Terão recrutadores da universidade.)

I remember the first time I met my husband. His big smile and contagious laugh made him stand out in the bar. (Eu me Lembro da primeira vez que eu encontrei meu marido. (O grande sorriso e risada contagiante dele o fez se destacar no bar.)
